Here’s a time-lapse video of me using IK Boost to animate a strutting style walk cycle.
This also shows how using bakespots combined with the Option Auto Bind will easily enable further animation to be added without interfering with bound contact points.

I find the key framing weird though

In short, anything you see go ‘gold’ coloured has had a rotation key written to it. You have various modes about which items can recieve keys too, used as a preference (that’s the menu on the bottom-left of the screen), also any locked channels wont recieve keys.
As for keyframing in relation to workflow, it is explained a little more in the post about workflow, which borrows heavily from Keith Lango’s Organised KeyFraming / Pose to Pose method.
